Ah, we knew summer would get here eventually (now that the air conditioner is out of the window). It's a quick hit, late in the day installment of the Five to take you into a beautiful weekend. Take these along with you...

1- First up, a fairly stunning, bursting at the seams number from Marnie Stern and her self-titled release out next month on kill rock stars. She plays Mississippi Studios on November 5th.
► Marnie Stern - "For Ash"

2- Speaking of upcoming shows, the never sober, always excellent Deer Tick return to town and the Crystal Ballroom on October 21st. Here's another from their latest, The Black Dirt Sessions...
► Deer Tick - "Piece by Piece, Frame by Frame"

3- San Diego's Black Heart Procession return October 12th after a lengthy absence. Black Bunny/Blood Rabbit finds them collaborating with the likes of Lee "Scratch" Perry, Eluvium and Mr. Tube, among others.
► Black Heart Procession - "Blank Page"

4- More October: the Portland band Climber returns with The Mystic next month, including a release show October 9th at the Someday Lounge. Here's one from that new effort...
► Climber - "I Have Seen Everything"

5- October 9th-- that's a busy one in Portland, as it's also the release show at the Doug Fir for the rather massive new tribute album From the Land of Ice & Snow: The Songs of Led Zeppelin. The double album is out on the 12th on the Jealous Butcher label, and features names like Chris Walla, The Long Winters, M. Ward, Nick Jaina, Rebecca Gates & the Consortium, Loch Lomond, Laura Gibson and loads more. For real. Here's another familiar name included...
► Laura Veirs & Mount Analog - "The Ocean" (via Fingertips Music)

BONUS -On the heels of a one-off reunion show and a retrospective (introspective) release, dearly departed Seattleites Carissa's Wierd will have their three full-length efforts reissued in vinyl and digital formats by Hardly Art on October 12th (and they're taking pre-orders now). Here's a five-song sampler to whet your appetite, or introduce you, or make you cry, or whatever.
